The University of Alabama celebrated an exciting milestone in the construction of the new Student Well-Being Hub with a recent Topping Out Ceremony recognizing the placement of the building’s cupola and the significant progress made on a facility designed to transform student health and wellness on campus.
Members of the campus community, University leadership and project partners gathered for the event, which included building tours, remarks and a celebration of the project’s advancement. Many with integral roles in the process thus far signed the cupola before it was put in place at the top of the facility; this included contractors and laborers as well as UA staff and donors – all with investments that will yield benefit to UA students for generations to come. The ceremony highlighted the collective effort behind the initiative and the impact the completed facility will have on student support services.
“The 82,485 gross square feet project will provide much-needed space for UA Student Life divisions, including the Counseling Center, Collegiate Recovery and Intervention Services, Health Promotion & Wellness, the Camellia Center, Dean of Students, and Student Care & Well-Being. The new facility will expand programs and services, strengthen support for student health and well-being, and promote a holistic approach to student wellness, enhancing recruitment, enrollment and retention,” said Brittany Kyles, a project manager for Construction Administration at UA.
Once complete, the Student Well-Being Hub will bring critical services together in one centralized, student-focused space. By increasing accessibility and encouraging collaboration among departments, the facility will make it easier for students to connect with resources that support their academic success and personal growth.
“Today’s cupola signing marks more than a construction milestone — it marks a promise… a promise that The University of Alabama invests in our students, and we care about their holistic well-being,” said Dr. Steven Hood, vice president for Student Life at UA.
The project is a collaborative effort between UA’s Division of Finance and Operations, the Division of Student Life, Williams Blackstock Architects and WAR Construction, Inc., and is projected to open in the 2026-2027 academic year.
The Topping Out Ceremony marked a visible sign of progress and reinforced The University of Alabama’s continued investment in creating an environment where students can thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
